5 week Sewing for Fun course
Starts Feb 2015
A mixed ability class where you bring your own projects and Jan will be on hand to teach you the techniques you need to complete them. Projects are your choice and can vary from cushions to bags to dressmaking to free machine embroidery and appliqué. Whether you are a complete beginner or have the skills but want some support or just want to come and sew with a group of likeminded people in a fun friendly environment? Then this workshop is for you.
Bring your own pattern(if applicable) & fabric/thread and work at your own pace creating your item. Jan will be on hand to guide you through, help you and remind you of the skills you have learnt as well as learn new ones depending on the project you make.
Sewing machines are provided but you are welcome to bring your own. Although there are limited sewing basics available for your use eg scissors/pins etc a basic sewing kit will be required
This course will provide learners, whether beginners or more experienced sewers, with expert tuition and guidance in a variety of techniques – the choice is yours!
Space may be limited if you want to make curtains/blinds so you may have to make samples to learn the techniques

Simple Tie Bag Holiday Workshop
A holiday class suitable for adults and children
Adults and children alike will love this simple lined tie bag. Once you know how to make it you can make it in any size. This class will be great for parents and their kids to enjoy together but equally great for friends to enjoy together too. Children 6 -8 yrs MUST be accompanied all day.
Please bring ½ mtr of cotton fabric for the main bag and ½ mtr of cotton for the lining. There will be some to buy on the day from Sunflower Design.

Log Cabin Patchwork Cushion
Come along & begin to learn the precise art of patchwork. This log cabin technique is a great way to use up your scraps. You will learn how to use a rotary cutter & mat, piece squares together in formation, layer patchwork, wadding & lining & then quilt using the sewing machine. Making a simple cushion cover which would be a great gift.
NB: easy for beginners but some knowledge of using a sewing machine is required.
There will be plenty of scraps for your use but feel free to bring your own.
Wadding & main fabric will be chargeable on the day at £5.

Wet & Dry Felt Making
Learn how to make felt and corsages using basic flat felt making with merino wool fibres and simple embellishment. Come along and learn a new skill – no experience necessary.
All equipment for felt making is provided* A limited selection of beads/buttons will be available for your use on the day but feel free to bring your own for embellishing your work.
We will also cover basic needle felting to show you how you can embellish/add details to your flat felt as well as make pictures/3D items

Sewing With Leather Workshop
Come & learn how to sew with leather. Using scraps of leather, make a foundation piece of crazy patchwork . This is an ideal way to start stitching and working with soft leather. As it does not fray the assembly of the patchwork is in a slightly different form to usual fabric crazy patchwork. A simple totate bag can be made once the crazy patchwork has been made
Leather is included in the price - Due to the supplier of our leather, colours are mostly browns, rusts & blacks. Feel free to bring any other colours of leather you have.

Come & learn confetti applique where you use chopped up fabrics & threads to make a unique textured piece of fabric that can then be cut up and appliqued plus we will show you the great technique of using watersoluble fabric with free machine skills, to make beautiful lace and flowers.

Hoop Brooch With Sarah Sewell
In this 2 hour workshop with Sarah Sewell of Wildgoose Designs you will design and make your
own mini embroidery hoop brooch. There will be a variety of fabrics for you to choose from and you will be able to embellish your brooch using applique, free-machine embroidery, hand embroidery or by adding buttons/beads etc. All materials/equipment are provided (there is a small fee of £3.50 to cover this).

Learn all the techniques required to make roman blinds. The day will involve making one roman blind on a scaled down sample*. Learn how to calculate quantity of fabric, considerations for pattern matching, different ways of sewing blinds, & different mechanisms etc.
All lining, tape, rods & cord supplied, all you need to bring is ½-1m fabric.

It’s a lovely simple place mat design made from squares and half square triangles. The coaster can be filled with Lavender or rosemary to give off a lovely aroma once your warm drink is placed on it! Place mat size is approx. 20” x 16” coaster is 4” square. After the class you can make a whole set just in time for Summer days al fresco! You will need approx. 4 fat quarters of fabric(dark, medium and light and a white tonal) and 20” x 16” piece of wadding and enough fabric for the backing and binding.
